Ebonyi lawmaker visits prison inmates, orphanages on 47th birthday

Member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State, Chinedu Ogah, yesterday, visited correctional centres, orphanages and other destitute homes where he donated food items, clothes, toiletries, sewing machines and other materials worth hundreds of millions of naira, as part of activities to mark his 47th birthday.
Ogah also visited Abakaliki Central Mosque to felicitate both Hausa and Yoruba communities during the Eid-El-Kabir celebration, stressing the need for peace and unity among Nigerians irrespective of tribe and religion. He said that such would foster development and progress in the country.
The lawmaker, who was accompanied by his wife, Mary, stakeholders, youths and supporters, said the gesture, asides being part of activities for his birthday celebration, was also to appreciate the people for their support to candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the general elections.
He thanked them for supporting President Bola Tinubu, Governor Francis Nwifuru and himself, who was re-elected to the House of Representatives.
Addressing over 1,315 inmates at the Abakaliki Correctional Centre, Ogah encouraged them not to lose hope, as it is not just a place of punishment, but also a place of corrections, reformation and rediscovery of one’s talents and skills. He promised to renovate some of the buildings and attract Open University Learning Centre to the facility.
In their remarks, the Comptroller, Nigeria Correctional Service, in the state, Chigbata Anthony, Aneke Stephen and the Vice Chairman, Hausa Community, Alhaji Idris Deti, as well as heads of Old People and motherless babies homes, in Abakaliki, appreciated Ogah for always remembering them during his birthdays and festive seasons.
They prayed that God would replenish his resources and take him to higher positions.
