Akwa Ibom Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, will deliver the Yoruba Tennis Club Centenary Lecture with a theme, “Democracy and the Imperative of Good Governance: Renewing Hope in Challenging Times,”as part of the activities in commemoration of the Club’s 100th anniversary on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

The Chairman, Yoruba Tennis Club/ Centenary Planning Committee, Olawunmi Gasper,in a brief with journalists in Abuja, said Governor Eno was selected as Guest Speaker in recognition of his administration’s notable achievements and developmental strides over the past three years.

According to Gasper,the event will hold under the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who serves as Patron of the Club; Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Vice Patron of the Club; while Femi Okunnu, will serve as Chairman of the Club’s Board of Trustees.

“As Guest Speaker, Governor Eno is expected to share personal insights on the importance of democratic leadership and good governance in addressing contemporary national challenges.The Lecture is one of the flagship events marking the Club’s 100 years of promoting excellence, tradition, fellowship, leadership, and service to society.”

He  added that Eno will also highlight the achievements of the State Government’s ARISE Agenda in strengthening democratic governance, driving sustainable development, and delivering tangible dividends of democracy to the people.

The Chairman further explained that the Governor’s leadership offers valuable lessons that deserve wider national attention, and congratulated the Club for attaining its centenary milestone and wished the Club continued success as it begins its second century of promoting excellence, unity, and leadership.

“The Akwa Ibom State Government expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Yoruba Tennis Club for the honour bestowed on Governor Eno, describing the invitation as a reflection of the growing national recognition of his administration’s commitment to good governance, inclusive development, and democratic values.”

The government also called on Akwa Ibom indigenes, friends, associates, and well-wishers, particularly those residing in Lagos and its environs, to attend the historic event in support of the Governor.

It is expected to attract distinguished personalities from government, the private sector, academia, the diplomatic community, and civil society to deliberate on the future of democracy and nation-building in Nigeria.
