The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the timely and transparent payment of retirement benefits, assuring civil servants that their years of service will be honoured without delay.
The Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Beatrice Jeddy-Agba, gave the assurance in Abuja at the send-forth ceremony held in honour of the Ministry’s 2025 retirees.
Jeddy-Agba said the welfare of retired officers remains a priority of the Federal Government, stressing that no officer who served the nation diligently should suffer hardship after retirement.
“The Ministry will continue to collaborate with relevant institutions to ensure that retirement benefits and entitlements are processed with diligence, transparency and respect for the rights of our retirees,” she said.
She explained that the commitment aligns with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP25), which places strong emphasis on humane administration and the protection of officers’ welfare both in service and after retirement.
According to her, the assurance is part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening confidence in the public service system and encouraging serving officers to remain dedicated, knowing that their future is secured.
The solicitor-general noted that delays in the payment of entitlements often undermine morale and productivity in the civil service, adding that the government is determined to address such challenges through improved coordination with pension and finance-related agencies.
She also reminded retirees that retirement marks a transition rather than an end, urging them to remain hopeful and engaged as valued senior citizens whose experience and wisdom are still relevant to national development.
Jeddy-Agba commended the 2025 retirees for their discipline, integrity and professionalism, assuring them that their names are firmly etched in the institutional history of the Ministry and Nigeria’s public service.
The ceremony, which featured the presentation of gifts to the retirees, was attended by the top officials of the ministry including directors of the Ministry, families of the retirees and other invited guests.
