Fintech bank strengthens data protection culture with employee privacy training

‎Digital financial services provider, PalmPay, has reinforced its commitment to customer information security with a specialised employee data protection workshop and the launch of an internal Privacy Champions Programme aimed at promoting responsible data handling across the organisation.

The initiative comes amid growing concerns over cyber threats in Nigeria following reports by cybersecurity firm, Surfshark, that about 281,500 user accounts were compromised in the first quarter of 2026, making Nigeria the world’s 34th most breached country.

The two-day workshop, facilitated by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and Data Protection Compliance Organisation, TechHive Advisory, equipped employees with practical knowledge on privacy governance, data protection obligations and incident awareness.

Speaking on the initiative, Managing Director of PalmPay, Chika Nwosu, said protecting customer information remains central to the company’s operations and maintaining users’ trust.

“At PalmPay, protecting customer information is fundamental to maintaining the trust our customers place in us every day. We have a greater responsibility to ensure that personal information is collected, processed, stored and protected responsibly,” he said.

According to him, the training reflects the company’s continued investment in strengthening internal awareness and ensuring employees uphold the highest standards of data privacy and protection.

PalmPay said the newly launched Privacy Champions Programme would establish a network of employee representatives across business functions to promote awareness, encourage best practices and strengthen accountability in data protection.

The company also urged customers to adopt safe digital practices, including protecting account credentials, exercising caution when sharing personal information online and promptly reporting suspicious activities.

PalmPay added that building a secure digital ecosystem requires collective commitment from organisations, regulators and users alike.
