Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to establish police institutions in Adamawa, similar to those in other Northeastern states, to strengthen security and law enforcement.
The governor made the appeal during a courtesy visit by the IGP to the Government House in Yola, where he underscored the urgent need for a Police Mobile Base and a Counter-Terrorism Unit in Madagali Local Council of the state.
According to Fintiri, these security units would play a crucial role in combating the lingering Boko Haram insurgency, and protecting communities in the state. He also expressed appreciation for the IGP’s second visit to Adamawa, reaffirming his administration’s unwavering support for the police.
Fintiri pledged that the state government will continue to provide logistical and financial assistance to ensure lasting peace and stability, not just in Adamawa, but across Nigeria.
Responding, Egbetokun commended the people and government of Adamawa for their steadfast support of the police force. He acknowledged the state as home to many police personnel, and credited existing security collaborations, particularly with the military, for notable successes in tackling crime and insurgency.
The police chief emphasised the importance of strengthening partnerships to enhance security. Highlight of the visit was the commissioning of a state-of-the-art office complex at the Adamawa State Police Headquarters in Yola.
Speaking at the ceremony, the IGP reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to police welfare and professionalism, stating that the new facility aligned with ongoing reforms to modernise the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
