The former Commissioner for Economic Development in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Samuel Effanga said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would win yesterday’s governorship election in the state.

Effanga, who spoke in Ward 6, unit 10, Afaha offot, Uyo Local Government Area, said so far, PDP was the dominant party and the results of the election would be in the party’s favour.

He stated that there was an improvement in the Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections, compared to the Presidential and National Assembly elections, adding that voters’ turnout was impressive and the exercise was peaceful.

He said: “The distribution of materials improved, and as at 8.30am, we had started voting. The turnout was impressive, peaceful and well coordinated. There was no hijack of materials.

“From my survey, the PDP is dominating and we are sure of wining. It is going to be a confirmation of the last elections in which our party won the three Senatorial and 10 House of Representatives seats. Today (Saturday) will confirm that Akwa Ibom is a PDP state.”

The Guardian observed that the election was generally peaceful beyond the people’s expectations.

The turnout was also impressive, despite the apprehension entertained by the people as a result of high deployment of security personnel to the state.
