FUPRE, others to represent Nigeria at global contest
FOR their excellent performance at the recently held Nigeria Mathematics Competition for University Students, the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), University of Uyo and Sokoto State University are to represent the country at a global competition in Poland later this year.
FUPRE’s 400-level Mathematics student, Abel Okojunu, made the gold medal category with his third position among the 126 competitors from 33 universities, making him an automatic member of the nation’s team to the global tournament.
Also at the same examination held at the National Mathematical Centre, Abuja between April 2 and 7, 2017, another FUPRE student, Emmanuel David Unak, won a bronze medal.
Commending their efforts while receiving the medals, FUPRE Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Akii Ibhadode, noted that their sense of commitment and doggedness, similar to their exploits at the engineering front with the car invention contest, makes mockery of the institution’s funding challenges, among others.
He urged them to do better at the competition, stressing that their feat smacked of a competitive spirit.According to Ibhadode, the accomplishment clearly confirmed the academic exploits of Okojunu, who is already on a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.93.
