Governor tasks lawyers on professionalism
Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has urged members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to always maintain professional standard and continue to champion the cause of the under privileged and disadvantaged in the dispensation of justice in the country.
Okowa, who spoke yesterday in Asaba at this year’s Law Week of the Asaba Branch of the association, charged lawyers to protect copyrights and join in the crusade against impunity in society.
The governor, who was represented by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Peter Mrakpor, at the event, with the theme, ‘Innovative Lawyering and Justice Delivery in the 21st Century,’ stated that his administration was hinged on the principles of transparency and accountability, saying the enactment of the Fiscal Responsibility and Public Procurement Laws was a testimony of his resolve to conduct the affairs of government in an open and transparent manner.
Okowa maintained that his administration would continue to enhance the judicial process by filling vacancies with qualified practitioners, improve welfare judiciary workers, as well as put in place necessary state-of-the-art infrastructure.
