Suspected herdsmen have reportedly killed a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) councillorship candidate, Ofa Elliot and kidnapped two others in Delta State.

The late Eliot and the kidnapped councillors were bid to contest the March 6, 2021 council polls in the state. The Guardian learnt that the deceased, who had clinched the PDP councillorship ticket for Ward 8 of Ethiope West Council was shot dead while returning from the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) screening in Asaba, the state capital to Oghara, his home town.

It was learnt that the deceased, who was the immediate past supervisor of Environment for Ethiope West Council, also ran Hotel business in Oghara.

Sources confirmed that Eliot and two of his colleagues were successfully screened, but ran into the herdsmen, who started shooting sporadically in their direction on their way, killing Eliot on the spot, while the two other councillorship candidates were kidnapped.

It was further learnt that one of them, simply identified as Hon. Allen of Ward 11, had escaped from the kidnappers when they were being taken to the bush.

When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Oneme Onovughagbogaya, confirmed the incident, saying the Police Command was investigating the matter.
