I will dialogue with agitators, bandits as president – Peter Obi

Peter Obi

The Presidential Candidate for the Labour Party during the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has said he will “discuss” with agitators and bandits to resolve insecurity when he becomes the president of Nigeria.

Obi made this statement during an interview on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics, which aired on Sunday.

While speaking, Obi said that he has condemned killings in various parts of the country, including the southeast, on different occasions.

“I have condemned killings everywhere. Even the one that happened in Anambra yesterday. There are Yoruba agitators, northern agitators, and eastern agitators. I will talk to all of them. There is nothing wrong with agitating. If you do all the right things, it will collapse on its own.

When asked about his thoughts on Nnamdi Kanu’s detention and ongoing trial, the former Anambra State Governor said the eastern agitator’s detention makes no sense to him.

He added that it won’t bother him as president if Nigerians call him names.

“Why is he being held? It does not make sense to me. Some people said that because he uses vulgar words, is there anything wrong? I have not seen it.

“It doesn’t bother me when I am president and he calls me a thief, a headless man, an idiot, which they call me today. It does not bother me. My duty as a leader is to the common man to put food on their table,” he added.

Speaking further, Obi said he would speak to bandits and deal with the issue decisively to resolve the insecurity ravaging the country as president.

“If there are people I can talk to, I will talk to them. What is the exact reason? I will deal with it. Let us say, for instance, there is a bandit operating in the northeast by the name Shehu, I will listen to him. quote me anywhere. But that is just to establish a link, to say enough is enough. Then I will deal with it decisively.”
