Oyo govt urges youths to shun violence, participate actively in 2023 elections

The Igbo community in Oyo State, at the weekend, threw its full weight behind the second term bid of Makinde, saying that the policy thrust of his administration has been of immense benefit to indigenes and non-indigenes.
Some leaders, Chief Collins Okoli, Chima Onah and Mrs. Anne Ekwueme, who spoke on behalf of the Igbo community in Ibadan, hinged their support on what they called the governor’s tremendous achievements in the area of infrastructure and security.

They equally commended the governor for carrying the Igbo people along in his government by appointing members of the community into his administration.

Makinde, while responding, said that his administration had ensured that nobody was discriminated against, adding that things would get better under Omituntun 2.0.”

The governor, who admonished the Igbo community in Oyo State to vote for the unity of the country, urged them to vote for him and all candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the National and State Assembly elections.

He said: “The way we have chosen to develop Oyo State is to encourage commerce and the expansion of our economy.”

Meanwhile Oyo State Government has urged Nigerian youths not to allow themselves to be used by politicians as thugs in the forthcoming polls, but to actively exercise their franchise in the elections.

Director of Youth Mobilisation and Voluntary Organisations, Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, Mr. Afolabi Olaolu, gave the charge, while declaring open the match between Shallom FA (Ibadan, Oyo State) and Acme Dynamite FC (Ota, Ogun State) at the Olubadan Stadium, Iyaganku, Ibadan, at the weekend.

He said: “Don’t allow yourself to be used by politicians as political thugs. I encourage you to be law-abiding and perform your civic responsibility in the forthcoming elections so that we can have the country of our dream.”
