Imo Assembly probes speaker’s certificates
To rest the issue of authenticity of the certificates claimed by the Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Chiji Collins, the 27-member house has raised a five-man panel to probe the academic certificates pleaded by the speaker.
The ad hoc committee is chaired by Chigozie Nwaneri, with Pascal Okolie, Kanayo Onyemaechi, Samuel Obinikpa and Frank Ugboma as members.
An Owerri-based tabloid, The Big Truth, had published that the speaker allegedly paraded doubtful educational credentials he claimed he earned from Italy, and that his claim of having National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate at the age of 24 was questionable.
The publisher, Mr. Modestus Nwankpa, was subsequently summoned by the assembly at an executive session on Tuesday. After frisking him, the assembly retired to plenary where the speaker announced the names of the members.
