Immediate past Deputy Governor of Imo State, Gerald Irona, has refuted a story of his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Irona was Emeka Ihedioha’s deputy while he governed Imo between May 29, 2019 and January 14, 2020.

In a statement at the weekend by Irona’s Adviser (Communications), Dr. Walter Duru, the former number two man in Imo, dismissed the story published by some online media platforms, on Friday, that he was intercepted at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

It was further alleged that he was involved in the collection of N400 million monthly from the account of Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC), during Ihedioha’s administration.

The statement reads: “In and out of office, Irona has lived a transparent, disciplined and decent lifestyle, worthy of emulation.

“While we consult our lawyers on possible legal remedy for this brazen and irresponsible spread of outright falsehood, the general public is hereby advised to disregard the report in its entirety, as there is no iota of truth in it.”
