The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman of Aboh Mbaise Local Council in Imo State, Obinna Onuamah, is dead.

Onuamah was alleged to have died of COVID-19 complications at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri, on Friday.

According to a source close to the deceased, who broke the news to The Guardian, the deceased, until his death, had served the party in many capacities in the state.

He was said to be one of the close aides to former governor of the state, Emeka Ihedioha. He was also said to be eyeing the state House of Assembly to represent Aboh Mbaise come 2023.

“He was elected Councillor for Lorge in Aboh Mbaise Local Council in 2002. He also served as Special Assistant on Protocol to Ihedioha during his time as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“Before he died on Friday at FMC, Owerri, he was having difficulty with breathing. He was rushed to the hospital some days ago and was kept at the isolation unit. But on Friday morning, we received the sad news of his death.”

“He was a jovial and easy going person. His death is a very big blow not only to his immediate family, friends and associates, but also the entire PDP at both Aboh Mbaise and Imo State at large. He will be greatly missed,” the source said.
