Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the arrest of its security men attached to the Obio/Akpor Council office over allegations of extortion.

Public Relations Officer of INEC in the state, Geraldine Ekelemu, in a statement, noted that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) conducted the arrest.

Ekelemu said the commission has zero tolerance for acts of extortion and would make sure that security agencies investigating allegation of illegality by its officials ensure that every infraction is redressed and punished.

The commission advised members of the public to avoid acts of desperation that could render them vulnerable to fraudsters while encouraging the public to report to security agents or INEC any act of extortion by any of its officials.

He assured the public that INEC offices in the state were open and attending to registrants at designated locations.
