Kano deputy governor resigns over alleged humiliation, injustice
Abubakar, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, said he resigned due to injustice and unwarranted humiliation in the hands of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
In the resignation letter to Ganduje, he said he would have loved to continue to serve the state, but needed to relinquish power to satisfy his conscience.
The three-paragraphs letter, stated: “Your excellency, I would have desired to remain in office till the end of our tenure to fulfill the responsibility bestowed in the mandate given to us in the joint ticket in 2015.
“But for the current and persistent irreconcilable differences on the matter of governance and government operations, personal opinions and the concept of, and respect for democratic ideals and values.
“It would be unfair to my conscience, to the good people of Kano State and to you as the head of the government, to remain in the office.”
The deputy governor did not mention any particular case of injustice or humiliation.
But he said the decision was taken: “After drawing your attention on the need to address issues that can generate needless crisis.”
He said: “Instead of heeding to my counsel to save the government from the present state of crisis, your reaction was, and still surprisingly, to persecute and mete all sort of injustices on me.
“I have endured immeasurable and unjustifiable humiliation for over two and half years without any reason, other than for my principled position on issues of governance and the desire to keep the government on track.”
The deputy governor had a few days ago, raised the alarm over threat to his life and possible impeachment plot against him.
He accused the state government of planning to stage protest against his continued stay in office, an allegation the state government had since debunked.
In a letter by the Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, Ganduje had advised the deputy governor to resign, instead of claiming unfolding issues against the government.
Abubakar is said to be a strong political associate of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who has been having leadership tussle with the governor.
