Kidnappers release two Cross River doctors, others
Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the release of two doctors and four others kidnapped on Monday along the Calabar/Ikom highway.
Following the kidnap, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) had, on Monday, threatened to embark on strike action.
The kidnap doctors are Dr. Joshua Omini and Dr. Egon Etim.
The Police Public Relationships Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, who confirmed their release said the victims were rescued on yesterday at midnight by a tactical team around Oyanga Rubber Plantation in Akamkpa Council.
Also confirming the release, the state NMA Chairman, Dr. Felix Archibong, said the doctors were safe and had returned to their families.
He commended the state government and security agencies for their prompt response to the rescue of the victims.
“I spoke with two of my members, Omini and Egon; they have been released about 2:00 a.m yesterday,” he said.
Besides the two medical doctors, others rescued were a Chief Superintendent of Customs, a Deputy Route Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and two others.
