Kogi orders boreholes, relief materials for IDPs

Kogi State Governor, Ododo Ahmed Usman

To safeguard persons and families displaced by flooding, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has begun drilling of boreholes at Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.

According to the state government, the move would ameliorate the hardship the refugees experience while sourcing for water.  The Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, who briefed newsmen yesterday in Lokoja, said the governor had directed the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) to immediately begin the construction and ensure sufficient supply of clean water in the IDPs.

The governor gave the directive during a visit to some of the IDP camps yesterday, where also ordered the provision of more relief materials to them. RUWASSA was given a 48-hour deadline to complete the drilling and installation of necessary materials to ensure that the inmates have access to clean water during their stay. He reassured the IDPs of the state’s continued support.
