Kwara entrepreneurs pledge ₦100m to back Mustapha’s 2027 governorship bid

Business leaders and young entrepreneurs in Kwara State have pledged to mobilise ₦100 million to support Senator Saliu Mustapha’s governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The pledge, made under the platform of Corporate Kwara, is intended to fund the procurement of the gubernatorial nomination form of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mustapha, who represents Kwara Central Senatorial District and chairs the Senate Committee on Agricultural Production Services and Rural Development, is widely seen as one of the prominent contenders for the state’s top office.

The group disclosed its commitment during a courtesy visit to the senator’s office in Ilorin on Sunday.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the forum’s coordinator, Abdulmajeed Olayinka Idilobe, said the decision was driven by Mustapha’s longstanding support for the business community in the state.

“We are impressed by the consistent commitment of Senator Mustapha to the growth and development of young entrepreneurs in Kwara State,” he said, noting that the lawmaker had supported business initiatives even before assuming public office.

According to him, Mustapha’s engagement with the Kwara State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mining and Agriculture and continued backing of small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) through financial and advisory support distinguish him among other aspirants.

“Among all those contesting for the governorship, he stands out with a proven track record of support for the business community. We are therefore ready to pool resources to support his ambition,” Idilobe added.

He emphasised that the ₦100 million pledge represents a voluntary contribution by stakeholders, with no conditions attached.

Other members of the delegation included business leaders such as Dr Shuiabu Abdullahi and Zurura Zubair, reflecting broad participation across the state’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Responding on behalf of the senator, who also holds the title of Turaki Ilorin, his Executive Assistant, Alabi Abdulkareem, expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a strong vote of confidence in Mustapha’s leadership.

Abdulkareem noted that the lawmaker’s background as an entrepreneur continues to shape his pro-business approach, assuring stakeholders of sustained support for enterprise development.

He also urged members of the business community to continue backing the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, linking recent improvements in the business environment to ongoing economic reforms.
