A Lagos High Court sitting in Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) has remanded two men, Ramon Wasiu and Adeniyi Okunloye, in Kirikiri and Ikoyi Custodian Centres, for alleged conspiracy and murder.

The defendants were arraigned before Justice Sherifat Sonaike on two-count charge brought against them by Lagos State government.

The prosecution alleged that the defendants conspired to kill one Raheem Waheed with a machete.

The prosecuting counsel, Mr. Alaba Kuku, told the court that the defendants committed the offence with others at large, on December 10, 2017, at Giwa Street, Ajegunle, Lagos.

Their offences contradict Section 223 of the Criminal Law Ch. C17 vol. 3 Laws of Lagos State 2015.

Upon their arraignment ,  the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Following their not guilty plea, Kuku prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him bring witnesses to prove the case against the defendants.

Justice Sonaike subsequently adjourned to May 31, 2023, for trial and ordered the defendants to be remanded in prison custody.

In another case,  the judge remanded two young men, Bright Onakwu and Babajide Akinola, in Kirikiri Medium Correctional facility, for belonging to unlawful society (Eiye confraternity) and armed robbery.

The duo were arraigned on five-count charge brought against them by Lagos State government.

At the resumed hearing, the prosecuting counsel, Mr. M. A. Olateju informed the court to accept the amended information filed against the defendants and allow them take their plea.

The court granted the prosecution’s prayer after she asked the defendants’ counsel, Mr. Semilore Oluwatayo and Mrs Chidima Okorie, representing the first and second defendants respectively if they have any objection to the amended information and their client’s arraignment.

The prosecution alleged that the defendants and others at large conspired, broke into a worship Centre (Church) and stole a sound mixer on May 27, 2015.

According to the prosecution, the defendants fully armed with gun, on December 29, 2015, robbed their victim of one  Blackberry phone, external drive, wristwatch, two Mastercard Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and N200, 000.00, at Ezimora Street, Festac Town, Ijegun Road, Lagos.

The defendants were also found to be members of unlawful society in the Ijegun area, sometime in December 2015.

Following their plea of not guilty to all charges, Olateju prayed the court for a trial date.

Justice Sonaike subsequently adjourned the trial to May 31, 2023 and remanded the defendants in Kirikiri Medium Correctional Facility.
