The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has alleged that some Lagos forces plan to colonise Northern Nigeria.

Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, also alleged that Lagos is playing a role in the issues bedeviling the Kano emirate.

He made this known during the convocation ceremony of Skyline University, Kano, where he highlighted the dangers facing the north, namely insecurity, hunger, poverty, and economic crisis.

He said, “Today, we can see very clearly that there is a lot of effort from the Lagos axis to colonize this part of the country. Today, Lagos wouldn’t allow us to choose an emir, Lagos has to come to the centre of Kano to put their emir.”

He also alleged that young men from Lagos are working hard to impose taxes and take away taxes from Kano and the north to Lagos.

He said companies in the north are being forced to take their headquarters away from the region to Lagos, where they would be taxed.

The former governor urged Northern lawmakers in the National Assembly to ensure that nothing is done to cheat the region in any way.

He cited an instance between 1999 and 2000 where northern lawmakers in the National Assembly were bribed and given huge sums of money to support a course that dealt a huge blow to the economy.

Speaking on the disparity between the rich and the poor, he said some people are making an effort to ensure that the poor become poorer and the rich become richer.
