Lagos State Government has approved the appointment of Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello as the ninth substantive Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).

Mrs. Olatunji-Bello, a professor of Physiology and former acting VC, is the wife of the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello.

The emergence of Olatunji-Bello put an end to months of bickering and distrust that trailed the processes of appointing a substantive vice chancellor for the university after the expiration of Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun’s five-year tenure.

A statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, said Olatunji-Bello was appointed following recommendation by the Joint Committee of Council and Senate of LASU in accordance with the LASU Law, Cap 169 Vol. 7, Law of Lagos State.

MEANWHILE, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has described the late Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye as a dogged-fighter, democrat and an articulate gentleman par excellence.

The governor, who stated this during a worship and tribute in celebration of the life of the late senator, held at the Haven, GRA, Ikeja, yesterday, represented by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, said the nation had lost one of the leading lights in the struggle against military dictatorship in the country.

ALSO, the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, described Durojaiye as a compassionate and God-fearing man who was blessed with good health.

She stated: “Pa Otunba Durojaiye was an eminent and well-respected son of Ogun State, whose passing is a deep loss to all the indigenes.”
