Police operatives attached to Surulere Division have rescued 50-year-old Olatunde Ayinde, 48-year-old Babatunde Ogunsemi, 49-year-old Oludare Olusegun and 41-year-old Sunday Ebifega from a mob attack.

Police operatives attached to Surulere Division have rescued 50-year-old Olatunde Ayinde, 48-year-old Babatunde Ogunsemi, 49-year-old Oludare Olusegun and 41-year-old Sunday Ebifega from a mob attack.

The swift action of the Police saved the men who were almost killed for allegedly shoplifting at a supermarket in Surulere, Lagos.

The suspects were rescued after the police received a distress call from members of the community about the mob action.

The robbery syndicate had attempted to steal from a supermarket before they were caught. Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed this development, said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were once captured on CCTV on September 1, 2022, shoplifting six bottles of whiskey from the same supermarket.

“One of the suspects, Sunday, had been previously charged to court in 2021 for shoplifting. The suspects would be arraigned at the conclusion of investigation.

“The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, has commended residents of Lagos State for always promptly alerting the authorities to suspicious persons and happenings. He sternly warned them to desist from jungle justice as it is a crime in itself,” he added.
