Lagos: Two die, three injured as water tank collapses on building
LABSCA seals building, asks residents to vacate
Two people were killed, while three sustained injuries when a tank scaffolding of a two-storey building collapsed on a bungalow in the next compound in Lagos.
The incident occurred at about 9:40pm at Adeleye Street, Lady Lark in Bariga area of Lagos State. It was gathered that the cause of the incident was the scaffolding of a tank at a two-storey building that collapsed on a nearby bungalow.
The Guardian learnt that the scaffolding fell on two rooms in the bungalow where the deceased child and adult male, and injured adults were.
Zonal Coordinator, South West, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, who confirmed the incident yesterday, said the injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Farinloye said that a tank scaffolding of a two-storey building collapsed on a bungalow in the next compound, resulting in the death of two males- an adult and a child, while three adult males sustained injuries. He said that the injured were taken to the hospital by community leaders in Bariga before the arrival of emergency responders.
Permanent Secretary (PS) Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), who also confirmed the incident, said rescuers were deployed to the scene from Onipanu.
Also, the General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, who led officials of the agency to the scene, has sealed the building and directed residents to vacate the collapsed structure. He said the agency is investigating the matter and will mete appropriate sanctions to those who contravened the state’s building laws.
