Man, 25, commits suicide in Anambra

A 25-year-old man, Shola Abisola, at the weekend, committed suicide in his room in Awka, the Anambra State capital. The deceased, a native of Ikogbo in Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of Ogun State, was reportedly found lying unconscious in his room after taking a poisonous substance.

A resident of the area said the deceased was rushed to Amaku Teaching Hospital where he was certified dead while receiving treatment. Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, said the body has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

“One Sunday Ozoemene ‘m’ of No. 33. Chime Street Awka, reported at the Central Police Station Awka, at about 4:30p.m. one Shola Abisola male aged 25 years, allegedly drank a chemical substance labeled ‘Sniper’ and was found laying unconscious in his room,” he said.He said exhibit were recovered and photograph obtained at the scene during a visit by police detectives attached to Central Police Station Awka, adding that the case was being investigated to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.

There have been incidences of suicide in Anambra in the last few weeks. A 19-year-old man on August 31, 2018, committed suicide in his room in Mmakwum village, Obosi in Idemili local council area of the state. The deceased, identified as Prince Chigozie, was said to have been found hung dead in his room by his father.

Also, a 40-year-old man committed suicide in the same Obosi, in Idemili North local government area of Anambra State. The deceased, Nnamdi Omezi, was said to have hung himself in July with a rope suspended to the ceiling fan in his apartment located at No. 7, Fred Ezika street, Odume layout. The body of the deceased was still dangling from where it was suspended when the police, led by the DPO Isiowulu Division arrived the scene.
