The Osun police command yesterday said it has arrested a 29-year-old-man, Adeleye Olusesan, for alleged rape of the three-year-old daughter of his lover. The police said he committed the act on February 18 in Ifetedo area of the state.

Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, while parading the suspect at the police headquarters in Osogbo, said the victim’s mother left her daughter with Olusesan and went to work at a farm. The woman discovered that her daughter had been violated upon her return.

The police boss said the victim’s mother reported the matter to the police and on interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime. Kokumo, who said that the victim had been taken to the hospital for treatment, disclosed that the medical examination conducted revealed extensive laceration into her rectum.

Kokumo added that the suspect would be charged to court after the completion of investigation on the matter.

Meanwhile, the long arm of the law has caught up with a 21-year-old man, Sodiq Abiodun, for impersonating as a soldier and raping an 18-year-old girl. Other suspects were also arrested for offences ranging from robbery, murder, cultism, rustling, and impersonation in Oyo State.

Parading the suspects yesterday at the command headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, the Commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu, said the efforts of the command was boosted by the state government support which paid off with the harvest of suspected criminals arrested.

Abiodun was arrested together with his alleged accomplice, Lekan Adesokan, aged 31.

Olukolu said: “On February 19, at about 8:30a.m. one Ismail Alimot, female, aged 17 was accosted by one notorious hoodlum who often impersonated as a soldier at a desolate spot in Modina, Orita Aperin area of Ibadan.

“The hoodlum attacked the said Ismail Alimot, dispossessed her of her cell phone and abducted her to his hideout at Papa Eleye, Olomi area, Ibadan where his syndicate member was waiting for him. The victim was held hostage and later raped serially until the next day.

“As soon as the incident was reported at SARS office, a team of SARS operatives swung into action and two hoodlums who later identified themselves as Sodiq Abiodun and Lekan Adesokan were arrested in connection with the crime. A complete set of Nigerian Army camouflage uniform which he normally wore to carry out his criminal activities was recovered from him”.

While confessing to the crime, Abiodun who is a father of one said he wanted to be a military man but fate did not smile at him, leading to the impersonation as a soldier.

He said: “I’m a carpenter but people know me in my area as a military man. I love the profession. Since 2007, I have been applying to the Nigerian Army, but I didn’t make it. For one reason or the others, they would disqualify me. Because I love the job, I got army uniform. I traveled around with the uniform. People gave me money because they knew me as a soldier.

But this is the first time I would involve in rape. I wooed the girl and took her to my friend’s house”.
