Many escape death as truck rams into three buses in Toyota Bus Stop
No fewer than 10 persons escaped death today in Toyota Bus Stop, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Lagos when a fully loaded truck rammed into three commercial buses popularly known as danfo while picking up passengers at the bus stop.
The trailer with registration XA 899 URN was said to have rammed into the buses with registration SMK 343XP, JJJ 165 XZ, and APP 737 XJ said to be on the road.
While five passengers, four drivers and their conductors were said to have escaped unhurt, four passengers sustained injury.
Though no life was lost to the incident but the legs of a young mechanic who was in one of the buses were broken.
Traders at the Ladipo auto-spare parts market accused the danfo drivers of obstructing traffic leading to the accident.
One of them told The Guardian: “The drivers only put the truck driver in trouble, he’s not at fault. They are always in the habit of picking up passengers on the road instead of parking to pick passengers.
The medical team of the Lagos State Emergency arrived at the scene of the incident to attend to the victims two hours after The Guardian made a call to both the Lagos State emergency and the Permanent Secretary (PS), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.
It took the effort of an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), OS Akaegbu who came down from the commercial bus he boarded to control the traffic as the drivers of the three commercial buses took to their heels after the incident and left their buses on the road leading to heavy traffic logjam.
