Methodist Church of Nigeria has celebrated its 50 years of episcopacy and the growth of the church in the last five decades.
Speaking at Hoares Memorial Methodist Church in Yaba, Lagos yesterday, the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence, Dr Oliver Ali Aba, said the episcopacy adopted by the church was not monarchical, but rather tied all ends together under the oversight of the Conference. The understanding of the episcopacy, derived from the Greek word ‘episcope’ implies ‘oversight’.
Aba said the Methodist system made the church unique within the World Methodist Council, courtesy of the first Patriarch.
