The former Commissioner for Local Governments in Kano State and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy Governorship candidate, Murtala Sule Garo, has earned a reputation as a man of the people. With his deep ties to grassroots politics and his commitment to rural development, Garo’s influence has been both impactful and widespread.

During his tenure as Commissioner for Local Governments, Garo was instrumental in numerous initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Kano’s citizens. His focus on infrastructure development and educational reform has left a lasting mark on the state, especially in rural areas.

One of Garo’s most significant contributions was his role in the renovation and construction of educational facilities. In collaboration with Former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, Garo facilitated the allocation of funds to each of Kano’s 44 Councils for the renovation of primary schools. This initiative ensured that children in even the most remote areas had access to quality learning environments. “Education is the foundation of any prosperous society, and we have prioritized it in our policymaking,” Garo stated. His efforts, along with additional infrastructure projects, contributed to a comprehensive educational upliftment across Kano.

Beyond education, Garo was also deeply involved in infrastructure development, particularly in improving Kano’s road network. Under his leadership, rural communities benefitted from the construction of roads and bridges designed to ease transportation and promote economic growth. Notable projects include the Garo-Gadinya road in Kabo Council, which provided critical connectivity between rural areas. These infrastructure developments have significantly improved the movement of goods and services, making it easier for farmers and traders to access markets and boosting the local economy.

However, Garo’s contributions were not limited to infrastructure. He is best known for his extensive empowerment programmes aimed at alleviating poverty, particularly among Kano’s youth and women. Through these programmes, over 1,200 individuals in Kabo council alone were provided with startup capital, vehicles, and equipment to help kickstart their businesses. “As someone who shares in the plight of our youth, I made it a priority to provide them with the tools and resources they need to thrive,” Garo remarked. These programmes have not only improved livelihoods but have also fostered a culture of entrepreneurship in Kano’s rural areas.

As the Deputy Governorship candidate of the APC in Kano, Garo brings invaluable experience and a proven track record to the ticket. His deep connection to grassroots politics and his focus on community-driven development make him a strong leader who understands the needs of his constituents. His supporters describe him as a “man of courage,” someone who is unafraid to stand up for the welfare of his people, even in challenging political climates.

Murtala Sule Garo’s contributions to Kano’s development, particularly in education, infrastructure, and youth empowerment, have left an indelible mark on the state. As he continues his political journey, there is no doubt that his focus on sustainable development and grassroots empowerment will remain at the forefront of his agenda. His leadership promises a brighter future for Kano, ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach all corners of the state, especially the most vulnerable.
