The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State Joint Campus Council (JCC), and the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) have commended security agencies and the Ogun State Government for the successful rescue of students of ICT Polytechnic, Sapade, who were recently abducted.

The student bodies described the rescue operation as a demonstration of professionalism, resilience and the effectiveness of coordinated security efforts in protecting lives and restoring public confidence.

In a joint statement signed by the Chairman of NANS Ogun JCC, Habeebullahi Adekunle Tijani, popularly known as Kennyology, and the National President of NAOSS, Olubodun Olalekan Opeyemi, the associations also praised the rescue of other victims freed during the operation.

They specifically lauded the Ogun State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), local vigilante groups and other security agencies for their roles in the operation.

According to the associations, the successful rescue underscores the importance of sustained collaboration between security agencies and the public in tackling insecurity.

“The successful operation has once again shown that when security agencies receive the necessary support and cooperation from the public, they are better positioned to discharge their constitutional responsibilities effectively,” the statement said.

The student bodies expressed appreciation to security operatives for what they described as their courage, commitment and sacrifices in ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted students and other victims.

NANS and NAOSS also commended the Ogun State Government under Governor Dapo Abiodun for its prompt intervention and continued collaboration with security agencies to safeguard lives and property.

They noted that the government’s proactive approach had strengthened public confidence in the state’s security architecture and reinforced Ogun’s reputation as a conducive environment for learning and development.

While celebrating the successful rescue, the associations stressed that security remains a collective responsibility requiring the active participation of all citizens.

They urged students to remain vigilant, security-conscious and committed to supporting efforts aimed at keeping campuses and surrounding communities safe.

The associations also advised students against making protests their first response to security challenges, urging them instead to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information capable of aiding investigations and rescue operations.

According to the statement, constructive engagement and collective cooperation remain the most effective strategies for addressing insecurity and preventing future incidents.

The student bodies further called on the management of tertiary institutions across Ogun State and the country to strengthen campus security through improved surveillance systems, regular review of security protocols and closer collaboration with security agencies.

They maintained that a secure academic environment is essential to quality education and national development.

NANS Ogun JCC and NAOSS pledged to continue working with the Ogun State Government, security agencies, tertiary institutions and other stakeholders to promote peace, intelligence sharing and community policing.

The associations congratulated all security agencies involved in the operation and expressed optimism that sustained collaboration would further enhance the safety of students and other residents across the state.
