NBC, Daar Communications resolve disagreement
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the Daar Communications Plc have resolved the disagreement that led to the suspension of the operational licences of Africa Independent Television (AIT) and Ray Power FM last Thursday.
A source close to the commission told The Guardian that the Nigerian Press Organisation (NPO), comprising the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN), Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), brokered the peace between them during a meeting in Abuja.
The source further said that after the meeting, three resolutions were reached, which include that Daar Communications Plc should withdraw the case it filed at the court, that the NBC should lift the suspension it imposed on AIT and Ray Power FM and that Daar Communications should put in place internal mechanisms to monitor its contents and ensure that they do not breach the broadcasting code.
However, in a statement yesterday, President of NPAN, Nduka Obaigbena, said DAAR Communications had agreed to withdraw the case filed against NBC in court.
He noted that a meeting was convened for all parties to “resolve the issues in the national interest.”
