The Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC), has called on state governors to respect the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Commission for protection of Information Communication Technology (ICT), infrastructure in their domains.

Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Umar G. Danbatta, made the appeal during a courtesy visit on the Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai.

Danbatta expressed dismay at the incessant cases of vandalism of ICT facilities in the country and the recurring cases of multiple taxation operators have to bear, especially at state levels.

He urged Governor El-Rufai to prevail on his fellow governors in the north to ensure adequate protection of the facilities in the interest of the country’s economy.

“Here in Kaduna, we have harmonised our taxes; no more multiple taxes here. We will never allow base stations to be shut down because of debt owed us because we have abrogated all tax laws in Kaduna, enacted a new tax code and also centralised tax collection, so that telecom companies will not be taxed by state government, local government,” he said.
