The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, is scheduled to start a 21-day traditional rite as the new monarch of the town.

This development followed Friday’s confirmation by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of Owoade as the new monarch of the ancient Yoruba community.

On Monday, Governor Makinde presented the new Alaafin of Oyo with the staff of office. The monarch succeeded the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who passed away three years ago.

Following the presentation of Owoade, media reports revealed that the new Alaafin has headed to Oyo town to meet his subjects.

According to the reports, the 21 days of traditional rites for the new Alaafin of Oyo’s ascension to the throne will begin immediately.

“Oba Owoade has headed to Oyo town to meet the sons and daughters of Oyo town and will proceed with his mandatory 21-day traditional rites for the ascension to the throne of his forefathers,” the report read.
