NGO wants improved sanitation in IDP camps
Ebim Social Development Initiative (ESDI), a non-government organisation has called on the Federal Government and other stakeholders in the water and sanitation sector to ensure Nigerians living in Internally Displaced Camps (IDPs) are provided water and sanitary facilities.
In a statement commemorating World Toilet Day, Bankole Ebisemiju, ESDI’s Executive Director, lamented the present sanitation situation at the different IDP camps.
Aside the deplorable sanitation situation in the camps, he described as scary the United Nations Children Fund’s (UNICEF) report last week that Nigeria ranks among the top five countries globally with large numbers of people without access to safe water, improved sanitation and open defecation.
On November 19, ESDI will carry out a sensitisation campaign at the New Kunchigoro Internally Displaced Persons Camp in Abuja.
