Niger commences payment of N25b to retirees
Niger State Governor, Muhammad Umaru Bago, has commenced the payment of gratuities to the first batch of 335 retirees in the state. The governor, represented by his deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, at the payment ceremony, presented cheques to some of the retirees.
Bago stressed that state government, in its determination to address all issues affecting pensioners at state and local council levels, approved and released N25b to clear all outstanding entitlements.
He said that the release of the fund for the payment of the gratuities is a testament to the administration’s commitment to the welfare of its retired civil servants.
The governor warned against any attempts to tamper with the serial numbers and files of the beneficiaries, stating that anyone caught doing so will be dealt with decisively.
The payment process will continue in batches, with the retirees from local councils receiving their cheques from July 26.
