Ghana has identified Nigeria as its second largest source market for international visitors, with 176,000 Nigerians travelling to the country in 2025.

The disclosure was made yesterday by Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Yusif Jajah, during an executive dinner in Accra, Ghana, organised in honour of the National Executive Council of the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA).

According to Jajah, Ghana recorded more than 1.3 million international tourist arrivals in 2025, with the United States retaining the top position as the country’s largest source market, while Nigeria ranked second with over 176,000 visitors.

Jajah described Nigeria as one of Ghana’s most strategic tourism partners, stressing that stronger collaboration between governments, tourism operators and travel agencies would further boost visitor traffic between both countries.

He added that although the recorded figure exceeded 176,000 arrivals from Nigeria, the actual number of Nigerians visiting Ghana could be higher, noting that the statistics indicated the enduring people-to-people relationship between the two West African nations.

Jajah also called for greater reciprocity, expressing optimism that more Ghanaians would equally visit Nigeria to strengthen bilateral tourism and cultural exchanges.

Also speaking at the event, NANTA President, Yinka Folami, said the association recently celebrated its 50th anniversary and had grown to a membership of more than 4,000 travel professionals across Nigeria.

Folami described the relationship between Nigeria and Ghana as central to the growth of tourism in West Africa, insisting that both countries had historically championed Pan-African ideals.

Also speaking, the Founder of Safari World, Samuel Afari, emphasised that the visit by the Nigerian delegation was the realisation of a 15-year vision to build stronger partnerships with the Nigerian travel market.

He said the engagement would further enhance tourism cooperation across West Africa and create new commercial opportunities for both countries.
