The senator representing Osun East, Francis Fadahunsi, has described employment generation as the most potent weapon against insecurity and poverty in Nigeria.

He attributed the culture of begging in the society and other criminal tendencies to joblessness within the ranks of youths of productive age.

Fadahunsi, who spoke, yesterday, at the opening ceremony of a scheme to empower 300 youths with skills in collaboration with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Ile-Ife and Ilesha, represented by Wole Aofolaju, said that the participants would receive take-off grants at the end of the training.

He also promised better collaboration with the NDE and other similar agencies in 2021 for training and empowerment of members of his constituency.

“This is not the best of time for our nation in terms of insecurity and poverty and people of goodwill must coalesce efforts with the governments to fight these scourges.

“Several cases of kidnappings, and are being reported daily across the six geo-political zone and these are predominant among the jobless youths,” he said.
