The Dredgers Association of Nigeria (DAN) has denied accusing the Lagos State Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Ekundayo Alebiosu, of harassment, intimidation and extortion of dredgers and tipper operators.
The association said a report published on online media platforms on October 23, 2026, titled, “Dredgers Association Appeals to Sanwo-Olu Over Alleged Extortion, Urges Governor to Call Alebiosu, Cardozo to Order,” did not originate from its national leadership or any authorised organ.
In a disclaimer signed by its National President, Batare Akpomejero, and National Secretary, Richard Ntan, DAN said it neither authorised nor issued any petition or press statement accusing the commissioner of misconduct.
It also said it had no record of the alleged impounding of trucks and demand for N500,000, as reported in the publication, stressing that it had completely dissociated itself from the claims.
Reaffirming its relationship with the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the association described its engagement with the government and the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development as cordial and collaborative.
On issues relating to dredging regulations and the interpretation of Supreme Court judgments on shoreline authority, DAN said discussions were being pursued through appropriate institutional channels and dialogue with relevant federal and state authorities, rather than through public confrontations in the media.
The association urged the public, the Lagos State Government, the commissioner and other stakeholders to disregard the publication as a statement issued on its behalf.
It also expressed regret over any embarrassment, inconvenience or reputational damage the report might have caused the state government, the commissioner and other officials mentioned.
DAN reaffirmed its commitment to promoting lawful and sustainable dredging operations across Nigeria, while maintaining constructive engagement with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
