Governor Monday Okpebholo has reassured the people of Edo State of his administration’s unwavering commitment to tackling security challenges and ensuring the safety of residents.
In response to recent criticisms from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the governor emphasised that his government is taking decisive action to combat insecurity.
A press statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bugie Okhuemoi, dismissed the PDP’s allegations, attributing the state’s security concerns to years of mismanagement under the previous administration. Governor Okpebholo accused the former PDP-led government of failing to make meaningful investments in security, leading to the challenges now being addressed by his administration.
“In just 100 days, we have made significant strides in improving security, surpassing what the PDP did in eight years,” the governor stated.
Governor Okpebholo outlined several initiatives aimed at strengthening security across Edo State, including:
- Procurement of over 60 brand-new Hilux operational vehicles equipped with modern communication gadgets to enhance security operations.
- Deployment of more than 300 motorcycles to improve surveillance and rapid response in remote areas.
- Suppression of secret cult clashes that had previously plagued the state.
- Reorganisation and empowerment of the Edo State Security Network to enhance community policing efforts.
- Strengthened collaboration between security agencies for more effective crime-fighting coordination.
- Increased material and financial support for security agencies to boost operational efficiency.
Governor Okpebholo assured residents that his administration remains focused on building a proactive and well-equipped security framework to counter evolving threats. He stressed that his government is delivering tangible results rather than engaging in political rhetoric.
While extending his condolences to families affected by recent security incidents, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s determination to rid Edo State of criminal elements.
“The safety of Edo people is our top priority. Criminals will find no haven in this state under my administration,” he declared.
Governor Okpebholo further called on Edo residents to support the government’s security efforts and remain vigilant, emphasising that security is a collective responsibility.
