It has been reported that a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated along the Bagega-Anka road in Zamfara State, was targeting a commercial vehicle which resulted in multiple casualties.

Eyewitnesses said that the death toll has became nine persons involving striking dismemberment, which the State Police Command officially confirmed that six individuals were killed, while six others sustained various degrees of injury.

Those injured were evacuated to hospital for medical attention, saying that they were currently receiving emergency treatment.

Locals said that Bagega – Anka road  has been under a state of virtual siege since a bandit attack on a military base near Bagega village last week.

The subsequent intensity of fighting between security forces and armed groups has created a high-tension environment, forcing villagers to rely on military escorts for essential travel to ensure their safety from persistent threats.

The State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said that the command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was swiftly mobiliszed to the area.

“The team conducted a thorough sweep of the route to detect and neutralize any secondary devices, eventually clearing the road for public use”, he added.

According to him, Special Tactical teams and sister security agencies have been deployed to the area to conduct confidence-building patrols and restore normalcy to the troubled axis.
