Pedestrian killed in Ogun auto crash

Evacuation of casualty

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a Toyota Coaster bus at Imowo along the Imowo-Ibadan Road inward Ijebu-Ode. The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. on Sunday.

Eyewitnesses attributed the accident to the pedestrian’s failure to check for oncoming vehicles before attempting to cross the road.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the crash occurred amid ongoing road rehabilitation work that had diverted traffic to a single lane outward Ijebu-Ode.

The accident caused heavy traffic congestion, while TRACE officials and operatives of the Nigeria Police Force managed traffic and carried out rescue operations at the scene.

According to Akinbiyi, the pedestrian’s failure to observe both sides of the road before crossing was a major factor in the incident. He added that no other injuries were recorded apart from the death of the male pedestrian.

The deceased’s body was evacuated in an ambulance belonging to the Ogun State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System and taken to the General Hospital mortuary in Ijebu-Ode.

Akinbiyi further disclosed that the vehicle involved had been removed from the road and taken to the Police Area Command in Igbeba for further investigation, while normal traffic flow had since been restored.

He urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution, especially around construction zones and areas with traffic diversions.
