The Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, has arrested three suspects over alleged motorcycle theft and recovery of stolen property in Lagos and Ogun states.
The police also recovered five stolen motorcycles during the operation carried out by operatives of the Zone 2 Dragon Team.
The arrests followed a petition dated April 12, 2026, submitted to the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Olohundare Jimoh, over the activities of a syndicate allegedly involved in motorcycle theft in Sagamu and Ijebu Ode areas of Ogun State.
According to the police, the syndicate allegedly sold the stolen motorcycles to buyers in Ogere, Ojodu Berger, Mushin and other parts of the country.
Acting on the petition, operatives launched an investigation into the group’s activities and operational network.
Police spokesperson for Zone 2, Gbenga Afolayan, said the operatives laid an ambush around the Sagamu Interchange area on May 19, 2026, leading to the arrest of the suspects identified as 29-year-old Sulaimon Mohammed, 26-year-old Ibrahim Saliu and 48-year-old Abdullahi Usman.
Investigations revealed that Ibrahim Saliu and two other suspects still at large allegedly specialised in stealing motorcycles during late-night operations between 1:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m.
The suspects were said to have removed motorcycles from where they were parked before forcefully unlocking the steering systems and manipulating electrical wires to start the engines.
Police findings further showed that the stolen motorcycles were later handed over to Abdullahi Usman, Sulaimon Mohammed and other fleeing members of the syndicate at the Sagamu Interchange area for disposal.
The operation led to the recovery of three unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycles, one unregistered Daylong motorcycle and one unregistered Lifan motorcycle.
Afolayan said further investigation revealed that the syndicate and its accomplices allegedly stole and sold about 50 motorcycles across the Sagamu and Ijebu Ode axis.
He added that investigators were trailing other fleeing members of the network based on information provided by the arrested suspects.
Meanwhile, AIG Jimoh directed operatives to intensify efforts towards the arrest of the remaining suspects and ensure diligent prosecution of those already in custody after the conclusion of investigations.
He reaffirmed the commitment of Zone 2 Headquarters to protecting lives and property while sustaining its crackdown on stealing and related crimes in Lagos and Ogun states.
