The Zamfara State Police Command has apprehended a suspect, known as Mustapha Mohammad, in connection with unlawful possession of suspected explosive materials.
The State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Yazeed Abubakar, said that the arrest was made on January 27, 2027, at about 4:15 pm by operatives of the Task Force on Illegal Mining, led by ASP Aminu Aliyu.
He further stated that the suspect was driving a Toyota Corolla with registration number KUJ 933 EJ when he was stopped and searched by operatives.
“The search led to the recovery of 954 pieces of suspected explosive materials concealed in polyethene bags”, he added.
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the materials were intended for use by bandits as Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
“The suspect is currently in police custody, and the exhibits have been handed over to the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team for safe custody and detailed analysis.
“The police investigations are ongoing to determine the source, destination, and intended use of the recovered materials, as well as to identify and apprehend other possible accomplices connected to the crime.
“The Zamfara State Police Command has assured the public that further developments will be communicated as the investigation progresses,” Aliyu said.
