The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has presented 21 insurance cheques totalling N17,662,896.70 to beneficiaries of deceased and affected police personnel in Abia State Command.

The cheques, presented by the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, on behalf of the IGP, covered claims under the Nigeria Police Force Insurance Scheme, including the Group Life Assurance (GLA) and Group Personal Accident (GPA) schemes.

Speaking during the presentation on Monday, CP Afolabi said the gesture reflected the IGP’s commitment to the welfare of police officers and their families, particularly those who had lost loved ones or suffered losses in the line of duty.

He urged the beneficiaries to make prudent and productive use of the funds, advising them to consider investing in and expanding their businesses to secure their financial future.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the recipients expressed appreciation to the IGP for the welfare initiative and commended the Commissioner for his leadership and efforts in facilitating the process.

They said the financial assistance would help ease their burdens and pledged to use the funds judiciously.

The presentation came as the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Abia State Command, paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner, reaffirming its commitment to supporting police officers and their families.

The Chairperson of POWA, Abia Command, Mrs Abigail Afolabi, who led members of the association to the Command Headquarters, expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for his leadership and support for police officers and their families.

She pledged to strengthen POWA’s programmes focused on family welfare, education, emotional intelligence, healthcare and community development.

Responding, CP Afolabi commended the association for its continued support for serving police officers and their families, stressing the important role officers’ wives play in supporting their husbands and raising their children.

He urged them to sustain the support and assured the association of the Command’s cooperation in implementing the programmes and objectives of the new POWA executive.
