The Rotary Club of FESTAC Town has donated delivery kits to 60 expectant mothers at Amuwo Odofin Maternal and Child Centre FESTAC Town, Lagos. The club said the programme was meant to mark its Maternal and Child Care month.
Speaking during the programme, the President of Rotary Club of FESTAC Town, Echefu McAnthony, said it was the club’s first project for the Rotary year.
He explained that the beneficiaries were drawn from those whose Expected Delivery Dates (EDD) were close.
“From our need assessment, we found out that most of those mothers don’t come to the hospital with anything. What we have been able to do is to give them what they need immediately when they deliver their babies. We have diapers, methylated spirit, cotton wool and everything for them to start taking care of themselves and their babies. You can see from the faces of the mothers that they are happy about the items in the bags,” he said.
The Head of the Welfare Department of the hospital, Mr. Olalekan Okubajo, thanked the club for its philanthropic gestures.
“We are used to the Rotary Club of FESTAC Town coming around to do one or two social services in the hospital. It is a great thing. We want to appreciate them. God will continue to provide for them. We usually have pregnant mothers that don’t have money to buy ordinary tissue paper, not to talk of delivery kits. So, it will go a long way for them,” Okubajo said.
The Apex Nurse of the hospital, Dr. Imoluamen Grace Titilayo, also thanked the club for their generous donations.
”I want to appreciate Rotary Club of FESTAC Town. So far they have been wonderful. I pray that God will bless them the more,” Titilayo said.
