For some pupils of Abeokuta South Local Government Nursery and Primary School, Agooba, Abeokuta, returning to school this term came with more than the usual excitement, as the Rotary Club of Abeokuta Royal provided them with school uniforms, bags, sandals, educational toys and other learning materials.

The donation was part of the club’s Back-to-School intervention aimed at supporting children from less privileged backgrounds and easing some of the challenges that could keep them away from school.

The initiative was unveiled yesterday during a joint official visit by the Rotary International District 9111 Governor, Rotarian Bukola Bakare, and her entourage, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Abeokuta Metro.

Speaking on the project, President of the Rotary Club of Abeokuta Royal, Abiola Olorunnisola, said the intervention was designed to promote Basic Education and Literacy, one of Rotary International’s key areas of focus.

Olorunnisola, a former National President of Junior Chamber International Nigeria (JCI), said the project, carried out in collaboration with the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), was intended to remove some of the barriers confronting children in accessing education.

“This initiative is designed to remove some of the barriers that prevent children from learning effectively, while giving them the confidence and basic resources needed to remain in school.

“It is also a reflection of Rotary’s belief that investing in children and education is an investment in the future of society,” he said.

He noted that although the donated items might appear simple, they could make a significant difference in the lives of the beneficiaries, stressing that uniforms could restore dignity, while school bags and learning materials would provide essential tools for education.

The project, he added, reflected Rotary District 9111’s 2026–2027 theme, “Create Lasting Impact,” by focusing on practical interventions capable of improving lives.

The visit also enabled Bakare to interact with members of the club, review its activities and encourage them to deepen their contributions to communities across the district.
