A 31-year-old man, Babajide Usman, has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, popularly known as So-Safe Corps, for allegedly burgling Glorious Christian Bible Church, Ayede, in Ifo Local Council of the state.

Usman was arrested at about 8:00 a.m. yesterday after he allegedly returned to the church premises to carry out another burglary.

The state commander of the corps, Dr Soji Ganzallo, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations, ACC Adegunwa Adegbuyi, in Abeokuta.

According to Ganzallo, the arrest followed a report that the suspect had returned to the church after allegedly breaking into the premises the previous night.

He said the Area Commander, Coker-Ibogun Area Command, ACC David Sanni, and his men responded to the report and apprehended Usman inside the church premises.

Ganzallo said preliminary investigation showed that the suspect had allegedly scaled the church fence at about 9:00 p.m. on Sunday and removed copper pipes connected to four air-conditioning units.

The commander said the suspect allegedly confessed to selling the stolen copper pipes to scrap dealers, popularly known as “Bola.”

He added that, believing he had succeeded in the first operation, the suspect returned to the church the following morning, allegedly intending to steal roofing sheets.

Ganzallo said the exhibits recovered from the suspect had been handed over to the Ifo Police Divisional Headquarters for further investigation and possible prosecution.

He urged churches, businesses, residents and other members of the public to strengthen their security measures and promptly report suspicious activities to the corps or other relevant security agencies.
