A truck driver has died following a lone accident involving an empty 40-foot articulated vehicle along the Isheri Elemu inward Ijegun axis of Lagos State.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident, which occurred on Friday, describing it as a tragic crash that claimed the life of the driver while his assistant, popularly known as the motor boy, survived with injuries.
According to the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the truck reportedly lost balance while in motion before overturning along the corridor, leading to the fatal accident.
He explained that the driver became trapped beneath the overturned vehicle and died instantly due to the impact, while the motor boy sustained multiple injuries and fractures.
LASTMA rescue and recovery teams were said to have responded swiftly to the scene, extricating the deceased and evacuating the injured victim for medical attention.
Officials of the Isheri Osun Police Division also provided security support during the operation, ensuring orderliness and assisting emergency responders at the scene.
Bakare-Oki expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured motor boy a speedy recovery, while reiterating the agency’s commitment to road safety enforcement and advocacy.
He urged operators of articulated vehicles to prioritize regular mechanical inspections and maintenance, warning that preventable mechanical failures continue to pose serious risks on Lagos roads.
