The Yobe State Police command, has arrested no less than 240 suspects over various committed offences from July to September this year across the state.

CP Usman Jibrin made this known on Wednesdays at a news conference held in Damaturu, the state capital.

The police chief said the massive arrests are part of the command’s commitment to transparency, accountability and responsible policing, which had provided an opportunity for the media to review the Command’s efforts in crime prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution across the State.

In a breakdown of recorded cases during the period under review, the commissioner said: “From July 2026 to date, the Command recorded 145 criminal cases, comprising 16 murder cases, 9 rape cases, 1 kidnapping case, 2 extortion cases, 5 armed robbery cases and 112 cases involving other offences.

“During the same period, 240 suspects were arrested in connection with various criminal offences. Through investigation and prosecution, 198 cases secured convictions, 2 resulted in acquittal, 26 cases are currently before the courts, 10 cases are under investigation, while 4 case files are awaiting legal advice.”

Among the major operational achievements highlighted by the Commissioner were targeted raids on criminal hideouts and black spots across the State, which resulted in the arrest of 171 suspected drug dealers and users and the recovery of illicit substances and dangerous weapons.

The Command also recorded arrests in armed robbery cases, fraud involving an alleged N77 million, cases of obtaining money and goods through fake bank transfer alerts, extortion under threats of kidnapping, and the recovery of four rolls of high-voltage electrical cables reasonably suspected to have been stolen.

Jibrin further highlighted the Command’s investigations into cases of culpable homicide and offences involving the sexual abuse of minors, noting that suspects in such cases were arrested and processed in accordance with the law.

At the briefing, the Command displayed some of the suspects arrested and exhibits recovered during its various operations. The exhibits included locally fabricated firearms, bows and arrows, cutlasses, knives, suspected illicit drugs, dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, monetary exhibits, and other items recovered in connection with criminal investi

He commended the personnel of the Command for their dedication and operational efforts, while stressing the importance of professionalism, intelligence-led policing and effective investigation in the fight against crime.

CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, PSC, NPM, for his strategic leadership and support. He equally acknowledged the support of the Executive Governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni, traditional rulers, sister security agencies, vigilante groups, the media and the people of Yobe State for their continued cooperation and timely provision of information.

The CP reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining efforts against all forms of crime and criminality, while urging members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to the Police.
