Former Governor of Edo State, Lucky Igbinedion, yesterday, appealed for more commitment to the rehabilitation and reconstruction works on Benin-Auchi highway, noting that the road had become a death trap for commuters.

He also called on government at all levels to pursue youth empowerment and development towards addressing unemployment in the country.

Igbinedion made the call shortly after he was conferred with Mentorship Award of the Year by the management of Intercontinental Paint during the commissioning of the Benin office of the paint company’s exhibition centre.

He urged government to prioritise support for the youth by putting in place mechanisms that enhance youth development, particularly in the area of economic growth and development.

According to him, a focused and determined youth population will drive Nigeria’s development. He urged the Federal Government to intervene in the dilapidated Benin-Auchi highway to save economic manpower being wasted on the failed portions of the road and to enhance the growth and development of the state.
